Jannie Louw's mother loves him, a lot. All this love has been transferred into two beautiful examples of honeyed kisses, scoring 4 stars in Platter 2010.

Nuweland Wines Swartland South Africa

The farm dates back since 1927. Juan Louw is the first generation making wine on the farm having started in 2007. He has done his studies in agriculture and wine at the Cape Technikon and harvested in 5 different regions in South Africa and one in California and one in New Zealand. With a passion for making dessert wine he is also the only winemaker in South Africa that fortifies sun-dried grapes (most winemakers ferment sun-dried grapes.

Nuweland also have wheat and a very proud Dormer sheep stuttery on the farm. The farm is unique for having deep clay soil to granite soil that makes it suitable for very different cultivars to plant for its terrior. They have 96ha of vineyards where only the best selected grapes with intensive suckering are used for the winery.

All of the vines are dryland where 25 ha of vines are above 28 years old and it is all bushvines. What also makes the farm very unique apart from the different soil types is that it is at the border line where they still get very cool sea breeze from the Atlantic, because its located only 35km from the sea, which are excellent for producing the Sauvignon Blanc which won a Gold Veritas this year at one of their producing cellars having come only from their grapes. The farm has a beautiful view on a hill over Table mountain, Paardeberg, Riebeeck mountain, Dassenberg and the Darling vlakte (flats) where Juan loves to take friends and passionate wine drinkers for a sundowner on a tractor ride, where they drink wine with home-made jams, salt-cured olives, chilly jelly and chutney Juan’s mother makes on the farm, also under the Nuweland label. They are in fact, Jacks of all trades and those who like to come are always welcome. Juan’s philosophy is “As long as I can enjoy a good wine, I’ll be rich man...”
