A good example of a family affair. The farms and cellar are situated on the slopes of the Paardeberg, facing Kasteelberg. Brothers Basson and their father supply grapes to brother-winemaker, Hugo, who does a damn fine job.

Philosphy Everything is being done on the farm itself – from vine cutting, until the bottle hits the shelf. Hugo believes that his wines can be distinguished from the rest by the entire experience that goes with it. “Here you are welcomed in a warm, typical farmstyle way and during the harvesting season we offer public harvest days. So, if you would like to relax and switch off over a weekend, AnnexKloof Wines is the place to visit. We offer well-equipped chalets, four dams for swimming and fishing, unspoilt fynbos, a 4x4-course and a game camp. Get rid of your inhibitions for a while and become a child again.” A program to reintroduce game such as Eland, Zebra and Kudu which once grazed the farm has also been introduced. Therefore working towards preserving, conserving and managing the farm’s natural biodiversity.

ANNEXKLOOF MALBEC 2010 - Description to follow. R 80
ANNEX KLOOF TULU 2010 - Shiraz Mourvedrè Grenache blend. A complex, full bodied classic blend with an intense deep colour, combining dark berry fruit with spicy richness.Aging for 20 months in French oak gives this wine a smooth structured mouthfeel with soft elegant tannins. Ideal match for red meat and able to age for up to 8 years. R 80
   
XENNA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2009 - Description to follow. R 35
   
XENNA SHIRAZ 2011 - Spicy full bodied red wine with white pepper undertones. Slight French Oak gives this wine a soft tannin structure with a smooth mouth feel. Dark berry fruit and a spicy richness makes this wine a drinking pleasure. Will age for 5 years. R 35
   
XENNA PINOTAGE 2010 - A full-bodied red wine with ripe prune and stewed fruit flavours on the nose and palate.  Slight French Oak fives this wine a good structure R 35
